Dress Me, Woman!
Greece & My First NYC Show!
Tuesday October 3, 2017

Hello! Long time no see.. per usual ): I know it’s been a while, almost a year actually, but I have some exciting news!

Before I get to this post, which is a little impromptu shoot we did in Greece, I wanted to talk about an upcoming show I have. As most of you know, after graduation, I moved to NYC for work– and have put fashion on the backburner. Like.. the backbackburner.. I recently got a wave of inspiration and somehow managed to be a part of a New York fashion show this month!

I’m extremely excited for this (and also very stressed bc I feel so behind), because I will be collaborating with NYC artists to use my clothing as an extension of their canvas, and I am SOOO STOKED! If you guys are free, please come out and support some local artists + me in Gramercy. Details below:

When: Tuesday October 24, 2017 @ 7-10pm

Where: American Beauty on 251 W 30th St., New York, NY (Gramercy)

Dresscode: However you want to express yourself (;

Price: $20/ticket (I have to sell at least 20, and everything after helps toward the costs of my supplies. But if you dont want to pay $20 and wanna go, I’ll cover you!)

—————-

Thank you to those who have stuck wth me these past couple of years, from when I first started this blog as a platform to showcase others’ personal styles, to being a platform to showcase my own original work! It truly has transformed into a large part of my identity, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to still create and share all of that with you guys.

Okay, enough of the gushy stuff.. Here are some photos of a floor length dress that I made from double-pleated chiffon + some silk string. It cost a total of $40 and took around 3 days (over the course of like 2 weeks..) We were able to shoot this in Ios, Greece at sunset, and I’m thankful for the experience to have done so. Shoutout to Nicole Pan & Long Cheng for being the most supportive and patient travel partners and photographers. xoxo enjoy!

Velvet Slip Dress / Halloween
Tuesday November 8, 2016

HELLO ALL !! I know yall probably didn’t even remember this site existed but, ~I’m baaaAaaAaackkKkkk ! ~

I guess I should update yall on what I’ve been up to since I last posted but, as you all probably guessed, I’ve been quite busy.

I graduated from MIT with a major in Mechanical Engineering and minors in econ & alternative energy studies in May 2015. Since then, I’ve worked in the financial industry, in sales & trading in NYC. I’ve settled into the city and have been trying my best to spend my limited free time living my best life – which meant I ignored DMW for quite a while ): But I picked up some new hobbies (like pole fitness & boxing), moved to a beautiful apartment (maybe video to come?) & traveled some! (all around the US, Iceland, Denmark, and Norway in a week O: )

I’ve had time to sew here n there, but just have been too lazy to post tutorials or videos of everything… But the last thing I made recently was my first dress from scratch! For halloween, my best friend & I decided to be the twin emoji with a twist. I’ve wanted to create a velvet slip dress for YEARS now (before the trend started I swear), and I decided this was the perfect opportunity to do so.

Quick & Easy Thrift Alterations
Wednesday May 13, 2015

Hello all! So as many of you guys know, I do a lot of alterations on things I thrift. Though it sounds like a lot of effort, some alterations are actually quite simple and take less than 30 minutes. Below are 4 outfits I thrifted and then quickly altered. Hopefully this shows you guys how simple alterations can be as long as you can see the potential in a weird piece (:

Piece 1- Turned this grandma-esque outfit into a matching two piece + headband.

Price: $8

Time: 20 minutes

Alterations: Turned the long pants into shorts + made a headband out of the extra cloth.

Paintbrush
Monday May 11, 2015

Hi! It’s quite delayed but here is a project I did for 4.314 Culture Fabrics. The concept was to create a piece of clothing that told a story about your culture. Since I associate with both Chinese and Indonesian roots, I decided to create a beizi cloak out of batik to combine two cultures, and added tassels to create the illusion of making the model a human paintbrush.

Hope ya like it, and apologies for looking so derpy.

In other news, I will be posting a video very soon (: Stay tuuuuned

DIY | High Waisted Swimsuit
Friday March 13, 2015

Hi! I recently found a one piece bathing suit that was too small for me, so I decided to turn it into a high waisted swimsuit.

Here’s a video, I sped through it fast like a nascar nascar but feel free to skim over this text post if you need more in depth directions (:

Materials: one piece swimsuit, (optional) 1" black elastic

What I Would’ve Told my Younger Self
Monday March 2, 2015

A message I learned the hard way

Short summary if you’re too lazy to watch ze video:

- Growing up with low self esteem, i never felt good enough to just be myself, and it was so important to me to have acceptance from others to feel okay.

- After dyeing my hair grey back in October, I realized that this was something I did not because of what people would think of me, but for myself.

- And now I do things for myself– iif it makes you happy, if it empowers you to feel good about yourself, do it!

- We should pursue whatever makes us happy, because in the end what does it matter what a rando thinks of you? Those who care about you should support you doing what makes you happy– as long as you’re not hurting yourself or anybody else.

- If we live our lives trying to please everybody, we’ll never win.

- My new years resolution this year was to love myself– to pursue happiness and to learn to love everything about myself. and i hope that dressmewoman helps me do this, and along the way inspires self love to others as well.

LEVELS
Wednesday January 14, 2015

First day in Rome! Well.. only day in Rome I guess. I’m off to Turkey tomorrow which means from here on out I’ll be wearing fleece quarter zips, large sweaters, ten pairs of socks, two beanies on top of each other, all wrapped up in a big puffer jacket to try & stay warm… so I guess that’s my way of saying this is my final installment of DMW abroad! Hope this is a good way to end (:

Overall, I enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful architecture and learning more about the rich culture of the places I visited these past couple of days.
